Weight-distance tax calculator: five states

Type each truck's registered weight and its miles in Kentucky, New York, New Mexico, Oregon and Connecticut this quarter. The calculator reads each state's official table and gives the tax per state and truck, which returns you must file and when they are due.

Sample data: a made-up quarter for one 80,000 lb tractor, so you can see the result. Type your own weight and miles.

How it works

Every state multiplies the taxable miles by a rate per mile that depends on the vehicle's weight. What changes is the table and the weight it is read at: the combined licensed weight in Kentucky, the gross weight for laden miles and the unloaded weight for empty miles in New York, the declared gross weight in New Mexico, the declared weight and the axles in Oregon, the gross weight and the vehicle class in Connecticut. The tax is rounded to the cent on each line.

Sample data: one 80,000 lb tractor with 1,200 Kentucky miles, 900 New York miles (150 empty), 1,500 New Mexico miles, 1,000 Oregon miles and 300 Connecticut miles owes KYU $34.20, NY HUT $43.05, NM WDT $88.65, OR WMT $251.20, CT HUF $30.00: $447.10 for the quarter.

Several trucks: add them; each state then shows the fleet total and each truck its own line. The same trucks and miles are used on the single-state pages and by Pro.

Frequently asked questions

Which trucks pay weight-distance tax?
Kentucky: combined licensed weight over 59,999 lb. New York: trucks and tractors over 18,000 lb gross (gross weight method). New Mexico and Oregon: over 26,000 lb declared weight. Connecticut: 26,000 lb or more and a multi-unit vehicle (FHWA classes 8 to 13).
Are these the 2026 rates?
They are the tables in force for the 3rd and 4th quarter 2026 as read on 2026-09-30: New Mexico's new rates from July 1, 2026, Oregon's Form 9928 rates effective January 1, 2024 (used until June 30, 2027), New York's Schedule 1, Connecticut's bands and Kentucky's $0.0285.
Is weight-distance tax part of IFTA?
No. IFTA covers fuel tax and is filed with your base jurisdiction; KYU, NY HUT, NM WDT, Oregon WMT and the CT highway use fee are filed with each state on its own return.
What weight do I type?
The weight on the registration (cab card) that each state uses. If you declared a different weight in one state, add the truck a second time for that state's miles.
