Oregon: the dates are for quarterly filers; monthly filers (the default) report each month by the last day of the next month. New York: quarterly filers; monthly and annual filers are told by the Tax Department. Every return is due even with no miles in the state while you hold its permit or account.
The rule in each state
- Kentucky weight distance tax (KYU): On or before the last day of the next calendar month after the quarter; file every quarter, zero miles included.
- New York highway use tax (HUT): Quarterly filers: April 30, July 31, October 31 and January 31. Monthly (over $12,000 a year) and annual ($1,200 or less) filers are told by the Tax Department.
- New Mexico weight distance tax (WDT): Quarterly return, filed and paid on or before the last day of the month after the quarter, even with no New Mexico miles.
- Oregon weight-mile tax (WMT): Quarterly reports: May 31, August 31, November 30 and February 28; a due date on a weekend or holiday moves to the next business day. Monthly reports (the default) are due the last day of the next month.
- Connecticut highway use fee (HUF): On or before the last day of the month after the quarter, filed on myconneCT, for every quarter even without Connecticut miles.
When a due date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, Oregon moves it to the next business day. The Kentucky, New York, New Mexico and Connecticut pages we read give no weekend rule, so the table keeps their published date and flags the weekend: filing by the Friday before is the safe choice.
