Five taxes, five tables

Besides IFTA fuel tax, five states charge heavy trucks by the mile and by weight, each with its own table, threshold and return:

  • Kentucky KYU: a flat $0.0285 a mile above 59,999 lb combined licensed weight.
  • New York HUT: a rate by weight bracket, laden and empty miles apart (gross weight method) or one rate by unloaded weight; above 18,000 lb gross.
  • New Mexico WDT: 27 classes over 26,000 lb, up 35% on July 1, 2026; one-way haulers pay two-thirds.
  • Oregon weight-mile tax: Table A to 80,000 lb, Table B by weight and axles to 105,500 lb; ten rates from July 1, 2027.
  • Connecticut highway use fee: 28 bands from 26,000 lb, multi-unit vehicles only.

Sample data: the quarter above, one 80,000 lb tractor, comes to $447.10 (KYU $34.20, NY HUT $43.05, NM WDT $88.65, OR WMT $251.20, CT HUF $30.00). The 3rd quarter 2026 returns are due Saturday, October 31, 2026 in Kentucky, New York, New Mexico and Connecticut and Monday, November 30, 2026 for Oregon quarterly filers: see the due dates.

Every rate comes from the state's own page or PDF, read 2026-09-30, and is cited under each calculator. Your trucks and miles stay in this browser: nothing is uploaded. IFTA fuel tax for the same quarter: FuelTaxTally.

Frequently asked questions

Which states have a weight-distance tax?
Kentucky (KYU), New York (highway use tax), New Mexico (weight distance tax) and Oregon (weight-mile tax) tax trucks by weight and miles, and Connecticut has charged a highway use fee per mile since January 1, 2023. Each is filed with that state, apart from IFTA.
Is the calculator free?
Yes, with no limit and no sign-up. Pro is a paid extra that turns the quarter into an Excel workbook with one sheet per state and a printable summary per truck; the calculator itself does not change.
Does this file my returns?
No. It works out the figures so you can check them or copy them into each state's system: KYU e-file, NY Web File or Form MT-903, New Mexico's Taxpayer Access Point, Oregon Trucking Online and myconneCT.
Do I still file if I had no miles in a state?
Yes, if you hold that state's license, permit or account: Kentucky, New Mexico, Oregon and Connecticut say a return is due every period even with no operations there, and New York requires a return from every certificate holder even when no tax is due.
Is my data stored anywhere?
Only in this browser, so the page remembers your trucks. No account, no upload, and the numbers you type are not sent to analytics.
